Back to Basics

For 2021, we are concentrating on reaching a broader audience and feeding more mouths. Along with those goals, we hope to pour knowledge back into our community, our generation, and those that follow. Each month of the outdoor growing season, we will be hosting Homesteading 101 classes. Here is a rundown of a few of those classes.

Learn how to properly and safely can food.

Gain the know-how to whip up a batch of homemade jam and the confidence to tackle the pressure canner for endless stockpiles of home-canned veggies.

Humanely raise and butcher poultry.

From hatching to baking, you can raise your own poultry. Learn how to incubate, brood chicks, and butcher in a safe and efficient way.

Humanely raise and butcher pork.

Learn the ins and outs of what it takes to raise your own pork, from shopping for piglets to preparing to butcher and pack for the freezer.

Plant a garden from scratch.

Learn about soil, seed, and harvest. Preparing your first patch is as easy as laying down a tarp! We will also talk about saving seeds, sourcing seeds, and what it means to be hybrid, GMO, and heirloom.

Use every part of the animal.

When you've spent months raising an animal, you don't want any of it going to waste.

Each class will be a pay-what-you-want style system so that knowledge isn't inaccessible to those who need it most. These are life skills that were once common place and necessary for survival, the passage of knowledge costs us nothing but time.
